Posted to Kalinaw News (Sep 22, 2020): Another Abu Sayyaf yields to Joint Task Force Sulu
In another report, Ali Jumsah, 41 yo, an Abu Sayyaf member from Maimbung, Sulu surrendered to Ltc Alex Gagula, CO, 100IB last September 18. According to Ali, he decided to return to the folds of the law to go back to the mainstream and be with his family. He was also enticed by the livelihood program offered by the local government of Maimbung for the returnees.
Meanwhile, BGen William Gonzales, Commander, Joint Task Force Sulu, lauded the efforts of his subordinate commanders for a successful collaboration with the local chief executives of Sulu through the Municipal Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (MTF ELAC). It can be recalled that nine Abu Sayyaf members surrendered to JTF Sulu in less than a month from August 29 to date; on September 7, seven surrendered to 1101st and 1102nd Brigade; on September 11, another two submitted to 15th CMO Bn and 1101st Brigade; and just recently Mahmor and Ali surrendered to 1102nd Brigade and Metro Jolo Task Force.
“The strength of the Abu Sayyaf Group is dwindling as a result of the relentless efforts of the JTF Sulu and LGU Sulu to end the local armed conflict in the province. With the continued focused military operations, I am optimistic that the terror group will be decimated the soonest possible time. I urge the people of Sulu to be vigilant most specially in Jolo municipality for reason that the declining ASG will resort to terror acts to project their strength.” – BGen William N Gonzales PA, Commander, JTF Sulu
