Camp Bautista, Jolo, Sulu – Commander, Joint Task Force Sulu, Brigadier General William N. Gonzales Philippine Army honors Staff Sergeant Nelson F. Juaquin PA and Corporal Ferdinand M. Buenafe PA both of 45th Infantry Battalion. The two soldiers were donned by Commander, JTF Sulu with Wounded Personnel Medal today September 22 at Camp Gen Bautista Station Hospital for their heroic acts during an encounter with the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group at Brgy Bungkaong, Patikul, Sulu last September 20.

In a report coming from Brig. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander, 1102nd Brigade, 45IB under Lt. Col. Ruben B. Guinolbay figured an armed engagement with about 20 ASG in Patikul, Sulu. The clash ensued at about 2:40 PM following an information provided by a concerned resident of Brgy Bungkaong. Major Bulosan, the ground commander during the encounter, recounted that heavy casualties were incurred by the terrorist group as they were able to employ their individual and crew served weapons towards the ASG’s location.

According to BGen Patrimonio, the community support program that is presently implemented at Brgy Bungkaong is gaining grounds in as far as peace and development is concerned; with Mayor Kabir Hayudini of Patikul and Brgy Chairman Abdukahal Humadjani at the forefront of development initiatives, basic services are being delivered to said barangay.

To all the units under JTF Sulu, let us maintain our peace and development initiatives in support to the Local Government Units of Sulu. We are winning the peace in this province.
