From Tempo (Apr 19, 2020): Rebel leader killed in Samar gunfight

An alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a three-minute firefight with members of the Philippine Army’s 46th Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, in Barangay Buluan, Calbiga, Samar, Saturday morning.

There was no casualty reported on the government forces. They seized one M-14 rifle loaded with ammunition and one Improvised Explosive Device (IED).


Capt. Reynaldo Aragones Jr., Division Public Affairs officer, in a statement said the gunfight was the result of the timely report of some concerned civilians on the presence of the NPA rebels led by Galvez who were harassing the populace.

The same group of rebels was allegedly responsible for the murder of former rebel Ildefonso Nablo Jr. alias Marwan on April 9, 2020.
Lt. Col. Colonel Rhomel Langcauon, commanding officer of the 46IB lauded his troops for the successful community security operation.

He also thanked the vigilance of the community for the timely information provided to the security forces. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
