The Philippine Army (PA) helped to distribute assorted vegetables and other relief items from private organizations to residents of the cities of Makati and Pasay on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, PA spokesperson Col. Ramon Zagala said the vegetables came from the Lucio Tan Group (LTG) and Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation (JVOF) while manufacturer Philip Morris donated rice.

These items were given to 500 residents of Barangay Southside, Makati and 1,000 beneficiaries from Barangay 156, Pasay.

The packages consist of three kilograms of mixed vegetables (cabbage, sayote (pear squash), and carrots) and three kilograms of rice.

"In the midst of the crisis brought by (the coronavirus disease) Covid-19 in the country, the LTG, JVOF, and Philip Morris purchased fresh produce from United Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center Stakeholder Credit Cooperative in the benefit of the Benguet farming communities. Said produce were repacked and turned over to the Army on April 6 for the distribution to the affected residents," Zagala added.

The donation aims to give relief to families whose incomes were affected by the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Families from Caloocan and Western Bicutan will receive the next batch of mixed vegetables and rice distributed by the PA.
