NPA’s bombs recovered in Samar

From Tempo (Apr 7, 2020): NPA’s bombs recovered in Samar

TACLOBAN City – Four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were discovered by the elements of the 46th Infantry Battalion (46IB), 8th Infantry Division (8ID), foiling the alleged planned attack of the New People’s Army (NPA) on government forces in the Calbiga, Samar, Monday.

The military received information from a concerned civilian that
the NPA rebels were planning to ambush using the IEDs the troops of 46IB who were serving as frontliners in battling the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The mines were placed along the only trail connecting the villages of Hubasan and Binanggaran of said municipality.

Lieutenant Colonel Rhomel Langcauon, commanding officer of the 46IB, thanked the concerned citizen that alerted the troops about the IEDs planted by the alleged NPAs.

“This is evidently laid to victimize frontliners as all our troops are conducting COVID-19 prevention efforts. This could have harmed or killed the civilians passing by the said trail,” he said.

Major General Pio Dinoso III, commander of 8ID, condemned the planting of IEDs in Samar and recent attacks against uniformed personnel in Luzon and tribal leaders in Mindanao despite the existing unilateral ceasefire and global COVID-19 crisis. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
