The Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) in Central Luzon has cited the need to amend the Human Security Act as it emphasized that rebellion is a hindrance to the country's peace and development.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, cited on Wednesday the need to stop rebellion for the country to achieve long-lasting peace.

"There is also a need to amend three provisions in the Human Security Act that include the number of days for detention, fines on wrong apprehensions and detention of a suspect, and on surveillance,"
he said during the RTF-ELCAC meeting in Central Luzon held at the Hiyas Convention Center here.
In response to the call for people participation towards achieving long-lasting peace, Ernesto Angeles Alcanzare, lead organizer of the Yes for Peace-Bayanihan ng Bayan movement based in Plaridel, Bulacan, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that they are now collating data to identify “community-based peace, development and social transformation" programs that would lead to the attainment of peace and development.

"We will disseminate our compilation through social media and all available means," Alcanzare said, expressing hope that it will reach all barangays and communities to serve as a planning tool.

Earlier, the group cited the need to recognize the right to peace of every Filipino, reject the use of arms and violence to pursue anyone’s beliefs, causes, ideology, and religion and end the armed conflict between the government and armed groups.

Also in attendance during the task force meeting were Lt. Gen. Ramiro Manuel Rey, commander of Northern Luzon Command; and Governors Daniel Fernando of Bulacan, Dennis Pineda of Pampanga, and Hermogenes Ebdane of Zambales.
