TAGO, Surigao del Sur--The Army's 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion celebrated its 45th founding anniversary on Thursday with the theme: "45 years of Selfless Service to the Nation held."

Surigao del Sur Gov. Alexander T. Pimentel, the guest of honor and speaker, led the distribution of certificates of recognition to all partner stakeholders who contributed to the unit’s mission.

Along with Maj. Gen. Franco Nemesio Gacal, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, and Col. Maurito Licudine, 402nd Infantry Brigade commander, Pimentel also led the donning of ranks to the newly-promoted enlisted personnel and the recognition of the unit's fallen heroes.

Lt. Col. Xerxes Trinidad, 36IB commander, highlighted the accomplishments of the unit and the "45 years of selfless service to the nation in addressing the insurgency and terrorism."

“The success of the unit was made possible through the effective collaboration of the different stakeholders towards achieving a common goal. The military alone was never a solution to end the insurgency," Trinidad said in his message.

"It can be done by applying the “whole-of-nation approach” where the community itself is involved. We have a working President that leads us, an Army that supports your government, and a community that is committed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gacal congratulated the 36IB for the "significant accomplishments and contribution of the unit in the 4ID campaign."

“Your achievement speaks highly of the kind of leadership that you have, and the quality of the men and women working and serving. Your courage, strength in body and mind, as well as your spirit and character, serves as an inspiration to many," Gacal said.

"So seize the day and savor this celebration for it is a fitting reward for your selfless and dedicated service,” he added.

Gacal also directed the 36IB to continue building on gains in the operationalization of President Duterte's Executive Order 70 "through the peace and development zone program and other peacebuilding initiatives."

“Let us work side by side with our partners and stakeholders so that we can achieve lasting peace and inclusive development for all. Let us as remain as true servants of the people steadfast to our mission, and loyal to our flag and constitution," the 4ID chief said.

He also encouraged the people of Surigao del Sur to support the government and help the President end the insurgency in the country.

“Let us end this now, we have to sacrifice, let's end the communist armed conflict. We must win the hearts and minds of the people and address the poverty and all issues of the government," Pimentel said.
