The New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Samar successfully launched harassment operations against military troops responsible for the killing and strafing of civilians, including a barangay captain, the regional command of the NPA in Eastern Visayas today reported. At least 4 soldiers of the 20th Infantry Battalion-Philippine Army were confirmed killed while several others were wounded after the military actions of the Rodante Urtal Command (RUC).
Last August 11, Red fighters of the RUC harassed elements of the 20th IB in Gook, Catubig at around 11AM. Four soldiers were confirmed killed in action while an unconfirmed number were wounded.
On the same day, a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was wounded after a unit of the RUC also harassed their detachment in Brgy. Poponton, Las Navas town at around 9:30PM. A certain Rolando Obiado, Sr. was hit on his foot during the military action, initial reports say.
Ka Karlos Manuel, spokesperson for the Efren Martires Command, said that the offensives of the RUC were in response to the people’s call for justice against the butcher troops of the 20th IB, whom they found actively implementing the Duterte regime’s counter-insurgency program by attacking communities accused of supporting the revolutionary movement.
According to Manuel, the 20th IB is responsible for the killing of Apolinario “Kap Pening” Lebico, barangay captain of San Miguel, Las Navas, the strafing of residents of Brgy. Tagab-iran in Las Navas, illegal arrests and forced surrenders of peasants in Gamay town, harassment and Red-tagging of evacuees from Brgy. San Miguel, psy-ops and intelligence operations in several towns under the guise ‘peace and development’ teams, and blatant misinformation, among other crimes against the people.
“The NPA offensives against the 20th IB and all units of the 8th Infantry Division and armed elements of the Duterte regime are to continue and intensify, for as long as they continue the killings, encampment, bombings, Red-tagging, harassments, coercion and other violations of the people’s rights and international humanitarian law,” Manuel said.
“As long as the NPA enjoys the people’s support, it will continue to frustrate and ultimately defeat the terror campaign of the US-Duterte regime, so the hated dictator Rodrigo Duterte will finally be ousted from power,” he ended.
