MARAMAG, BUKIDNON --The 88th Infantry Battalion in collaboration with (TESDA)- Bukidnon and the Local Government of Maramag recently launched a Community-Based Training for Carpentry for former rebels at the TESDA Training Center, here.

The training is part of the Enhanced Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for former rebels.

(I am thankful to the government because they gave us an opportunity to train in TESDA. During our NPA days, they only taught us to do an ambush, kill the civilians, burn equipment of businessmen and extort money as revolutionary taxes. But with our government, they help us to start a new life for the better future of my family), Saavedra, a former rebel said.

Ltc Franklin F. Fabic, commanding officer of 88th Infantry Battalion acknowledged the support of Maramag LGU and TESDA in coming up with such kind of program that would develop the skills of the former rebels in the field of carpentry.

"This is our simple way of operationalizing EO 70 to end local armed conflict at the local level. Thru collaboration of different stakeholders, we are providing our former rebels an opportunity to renew their way of life; to be productive and responsible citizens in the community," he said.

Fabic said through the training the former rebels will acquire the necessary skills that will provide the opportunity for income-generating projects later. We are converting them as future "builders" in the community,” he added. (88th IB,PA/PIA10)
