Authorities implement stricter checkpoints in Davao

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 22, 2019): Authorities implement stricter checkpoints in Davao

Police and military authorities have strengthened security checkpoints here following the explosions in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday.

Government troops were conducting security operation at around 1 p.m. when anti-personnel mine exploded hitting Pfc. Narciso B. Monreal on his legs and stomach and Sgt. Archie Dema-ala on his arms.

Another mine exploded in Barangay Brar, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao Tuesday evening although no one was reported hurt during the blast.

Col. Consolito Yecla, commander of Task Force (TF) Davao, said Wednesday they have "tripled" the security measures since the start of Kadayawan early this month.

"We will maintain the same level of alertness," Yecla said.

Col. Alexander Tagum, director of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the city has been on full alert since the first day of August due to the Kadayawan Festival.

"We have deployed a larger number of security forces on the ground to check on any threat in our city," Tagum said.

The authorities advised the public to be vigilant and report suspicious persons or groups and any unattended things for them to respond immediately.
