Tension eases between 2 warring clans

From the Manila Bulletin (Feb 25): Tension eases between 2 warring clans

Tension has eased in Datu Saudi town here as armed clashes between two warring Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)-allied families have been abated with the intervention of top MILF commanders.

This was disclosed by MILF First Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar, who told The Manila Bulletin, that there was “no more fighting between the two families since yesterday (Saturday) after the intervention of a higher commander in the ground.”

Jaafar did not name the leaders of the warring families and the ground commander tasked by the MILF leadership, even as he acknowledged the contributions of emissaries from the police, military and the provincial government.

Members of two MILF-allied families renewed armed skirmishes in Barangay Madia in Datu Saudi town last Thursday just a day after two gunmen shot dead Sahabudin Namli, a 42-year old elected councilor in the municipality.

Police reports said one of the feuding families was related by blood to the slain elected official, and could be pinning the blame on the other family for Namli’s death.

His death could also be an offshoot of the assassination of Datu Saudi senior councilor Anwar Sindatok few months after his election in the Sanggunang Bayan in 2016, initial investigations hinted.
