The Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, on Monday said it is working with authorities to identify and confirm claims that the suicide bomber in the Kasserine region of Tunisia was a Filipino woman.

In a statement, the embassy said Tunisia’s Garde Nationale Tunisienne killed a suspected terrorist during a counterterrorism operation whose wife blew herself up with an explosive belt.

“The incident left three people dead, including a baby the suicide bomber was carrying in her arms. News reports from local media in Tunisia and international media claimed that the suicide bomber is a Filipino national,” the embassy said.

The incident occurred on Thursday last week in the remote Mount Selloum area of Kasserine, near the Algerian border, a known jihadist hideout.

Another Islamic extremist was also killed on the same day during a separate operation in Mount Mghila, also in the Kasserine region.

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte is standing by the strong statement made by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana demanding the immediate departure of the remaining 44 Chinese vessels from the Julian Felipe Reef in the West Philippine Sea, Malacañang said Monday.

Lorenzana on Saturday told the remaining 44 Chinese vessels to leave, saying they had no more reason to take shelter there since the weather has cleared.

In response, the Chinese Embassy in Manila called Lorenzana’s remark “unprofessional”, maintaining its historical claim over the feature which is within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

“Of course, the President stands by the statements of our Secretary of Defense,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over CNN Philippines.

Roque, however, pointed out that the presence of Chinese ships in the area would not lead to war.

“I hasten to add that the President has been clear that this is not an issue that will lead to war between friendly nations. We are hoping that our friendly relations will soon resolve this latest impasse,” he added.

In a Palace press briefing aired over PTV-4, Roque cited Duterte’s speech during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2020 where the latter affirmed the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s (PCA) ruling in favor of the Philippines’ arbitration case against China’s expansive maritime claims in the disputed sea.

“Hindi po nagbabago ang posisyon ng ating Presidente. Eto po yung kanyang nabanggit na salita sa UN General Assembly. Hindi po natin isasakripisyo, hindi natin ipamimigay ang ating national territory at ang ating mga exclusive economic zone (The President’s position has not changed. He mentioned this during his speech at the UN General Assembly. We will not sacrifice or give away our national territory and EEZ),” he said.

Roque said Duterte also believes that friendly relations between the Philippines and China will result in the peaceful resolution of this impasse.

“Ang posisyon po ng Presidente, paninindigan natin ang ating karapatan pero hindi po to isang bagay para tayo po ay gumamit ng dahas. Kampante po ang ating Presidente na dahil nga po mero tayong malapit na pagkakaibigan mareresolba ang hidwaan na ‘to (The President’s position is that we will fight for our rights, but this is no reason for us to use force. Our President is confident that our strong ties would resolve this impasse),” he added.

He also reiterated support for Lorenza’s demand for Chinese vessels to leave the Julian Felipe Reef.

“I think Secretary Lorenzana was correct in pointing out that we consider that area as part also of Philippine territory and exclusive economic zone,” he said.

‘Sovereignty non-negotiable’

In a separate statement, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo expressed opposition over the “unjustified stay” of Chinese vessels at the Julian Felipe Reef, saying it could result in “unwanted hostilities” between the two countries.

“While we recognize the historical and cultural ties with China that have evolved into a productive relationship, its present territorial incursions is producing an unwelcome stain in their bond and may trigger unwanted hostilities that both countries would rather not pursue, as destructiveness consequences are not only undesirable, they are abhorrent as well and anathema to the peace of the region,” Panelo said.

Panelo insisted that the country’s sovereignty is “non-negotiable” despite the Philippines’ improved ties with China.

“Let it be clear to all countries of the world that are protective of their own sovereignties. Like them, we are fiercely protective of ours. We can negotiate on matters of mutual concern and benefit, but make no mistake about it -- our sovereignty is non-negotiable,” he added.

He said the matter of territorial dispute has to be resolved in the “diplomatic negotiating table or by the dictates of international law.”

The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea earlier expressed concern over a Philippine Coast Guard report that about 220 Chinese fishing vessels, believed to be manned by Chinese maritime militia personnel, were sighted in line formation at the Julian Felipe Reef on March 7.

The reef is located approximately 175 nautical miles west of Bataraza, Palawan.

The Department of Foreign Affairs expressed support over the DND's demand for the remaining Chinese ships' withdrawal from the Julian Felipe Reef.

"[T]he Philippines’ position on this continued Chinese presence in the WPS has been unequivocal, as articulated by the recent statement of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea and the statement today by the Department of National Defense," the DFA said.

On March 21, the Philippines filed a diplomatic protest over the presence of around 200 Chinese ships at the Julian Felipe Reef.

The DFA on Monday “strongly” denounced the Chinese embassy’s “unprofessional” comment against Lorenzana.

“The DFA strongly denounces the Embassy’s attempt to impugn the Secretary of National Defense -- a Cabinet official of the Republic of the Philippines -- by calling his statement ‘unprofessional,’” the DFA said in a statement.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo called on the New People's Army (NPA) to listen to the people's cry to stop committing atrocities and violence.

Panelo lamented that for decades, communist rebels have done nothing but to destroy lives, kill the innocent, and illegally collect revolutionary taxes.

“Sa halip na sirain ninyo ang ating bansa ay kung maari lang, huminto na kayo sa inyong ginagawang pagpatay sa ating mga kababayan, pagsisira ng mga ari-arian, pangingikil sa mga negosyante, pagpapahirap sa mga mahihirap (Instead of destroying our country, please stop killing our countrymen, destroying properties, extorting from businesses and torturing the poor)," he said during his daily commentary show “Counterpoint” on Sunday.

The sufferings caused by the NPA for more than 52 years should be halted.

"Enough is enough. Sa 52 years na, eh wala naman kayong nagawang kabutihan para sa inyong pinaglalaban. Sa halip lalong nalugmok sa putik ng pagkasira ng lipunan, pagkamatay ng mga miyembro ninyo pagkasira ng pami-pamilya kung hinugot niyo para sumama sa himagsikan (After 52 years, you have achieved nothing with your revolution. Instead you sank deeper, destroyed society, your comrades died, families destructed, of those you urged to revolt)," he added.

Panelo recounted that the NPA was formed after Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria "Joma" Sison joined forces with Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon in 1969.

It was the start of a bloody revolution of the communist rebels who engage government forces and resulted in deaths, including innocent civilians.

Panelo cited the testimonies of former rebels who returned to the fold of the law.

"Ang reklamo ng mga sumuko, ang mga lider nila sa halip na namumundok, eh maganda ang buhay sa siyudad (The rebel returnees complained that their leaders enjoyed luxurious lives in the city instead of joining them in the mountains)," he said.

He said Sison has been living comfortably in the Netherlands, while the NPA members are living awful lives in the mountains.

Easter message

"Ito pong Easter Sunday, sana ito po ay maging inspirasyon sa inyo at sa ating lahat na mayroong panahon ng paghihirap, mayroong panahon ng pagdaranas, panahon ng himagsikan, mayroong panahon ng rebelyon pero mayroon ding panahon ng kapayapaan, mayroong panahon ng kasaganahan, mayroong panahon ng pagbubuklod-buklod pagpapatawaran sa isa't-isa (This Easter Sunday, may it give you an inspiration that there are times of crisis, revolution, and rebellion. But there are also times of peace, prosperity, unity, and forgiveness)," Panelo said, addressing NPA members.

He said it's time for the NPA members to surrender and start anew.

Amid the prevailing health crisis, the government continues to push for efforts and effective solutions to address insurgency.

One of them is the Barangay Development Program, a counter-insurgency plan aimed at delivering government programs in conflict-afflicted and geographically isolated villages that have been considered "cleared" of the influence of NPA rebels.

Panelo said the communist insurgency has been the biggest problem of every administration for the past 50 years.

"The administrations of all, as well as of President Rodrigo Duterte, have to concentrate on quelling your rebellion – your murderous rebellion,” he said.

He noted that the government, instead of focusing on more important societal problems such as providing livelihood, education, work, and land, must quell terrorism.

"As we always say in this program, let us tread the path of the roses, let us tread the path of righteousness, let us tread the path of love and forgiveness," he said.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Mahigpit na kinokondena ng Lucio de Guzman Command – New People’s Army Mindoro (LdGC – NPA – Mindoro) ang iligal na pagdakip ng 203rd Brigade Philippine Army sa magkapatid na Kadlos at Jeremy ‘Eming’ Lukmay noong umaga ng Huwebes, Marso 25, 2021. Si Kadlos at Eming ay mga residente ng Sitio Kilapnit, Barangay Panaytayan, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro. Si Kadlos Lukmay ay guro ng daycare center sa Kolitob, kasalukuyang buntis, may asawa at may isa pang anak, habang estudyante ng senior high school sa Fe del Mundo National High school ang kanyang kapatid na si Jeremy “Eming” Lukmay.

Alas otso ng umaga ng Marso 25 ay nasabat ng mga berdugong kaaway ang magkapatid sa bundok ng Mayas, habang sila ay papunta sa kanilang lupain upang magkaong. Pinasaringan ng kaaway ang magkapatid nang makitang nakabota si Eming habang may dala ring maliit na kaldero at sinabing hindi sila magkakaong kundi pupunta sa kasalan na idadaos ng Bagong Hukbong Bayan (BHB). Mula dito ay dinampot ang dalawa, kasama ang isa pang sibilyan na si Adliw. Hindi pinayagan ang tatlo na tumingin sa kanilang paligid, bagkus ay sinabihan na yumuko lang habang naglalakbay kasama ang mga pasistang sundalo.

Dinala ang tatlo malapit sa kalsada kung saan nangyari ang labanan sa pagitan ng isang yunit ng LdGC-NPA-Mindoro kinahapunan ng Marso 25. Pinadapa lang ang tatlo habang nasa proseso ng labanan. Alas otso ng gabi, ilang oras matapos ang labanan, ay pinakawalan ng mga sundalo si Adliw habang sinama pa rin ng mga ito ang magkapatid na Lukmay. Dito na huling namataan ang dalawa. Ilang araw matapos ang labanan ay kinalampag ng mga kaanak nito ang kampo ng Hagines nang mabalitaang dito raw dinala ang dalawa subalit itinanggi ng kaaway ang presensya ng magkapatid sa naturang kampo. Higit isang linggo na ang nakalilipas ngunit hindi pa rin nahahanap ang magkapatid.

Patunay ang ganitong insidente sa karahasan at kabagsikan ng pasistang reaksyunaryong tropa ng US-Duterte sa mga sibilyan higit lalo kapag nagkaroon ng sagupaan sa pagitan ng AFP at NPA. Higit lalo sa panahon kung saan nagkukumahog ang reaksyunaryong rehimen na isulong ang ‘final push’ nito sa pagdurog sa rebolusyonaryong kilusan. Ang mga inosenteng sibilyan ang pinagbabalingan ng hindi makatarungang galit ng pasistang tropa sa tuwing may labanan na ang layunin ay takutin ang mamamayan at pigilan na magkaisa upang igiit ang kanilang mga karapatan at karaingan.

Labis ang pagsusumikap ng berdugong AFP sa paghahasik ng takot sa hanay ng mamamayan matapos ang labanan noong Marso 25, 2021. Bukod sa pagdampot nito sa magkapatid na Lukmay, ilang oras matapos ang labanan ay walang patumanggang nagpakawala ng 11 bala mula sa Howitzer sa mga gulod na kalapit ng pinangyarihang labanan. Bunga nito, napakaraming bahayan, kaingin, at maging buhay ang napinsala ng insidente. Bukod pa rito, sapilitang tinipon sa elementary school ang mga Mangyan na residente ng Sityo Boluntad at Tagascan ng Barangay San Vicente at hindi pinapayagan ang mga itong lumabas para pumunta sa kanilang kaingin kung kaya’t labis na takot at gutom ang inabot ng mga katutubong Mangyan .

Ang mga pangyayaring ito dagdag na maitatala sa hindi mabilang na pagsupil ng AFP sa karapatang pantao ng mamamayan at tahasang paglabag sa panuntunan hinggil sa pakikidigma. Ipinapakita lamang nito ang mersenaryong katangian ng AFP. Hindi sila kumikilala ng batas o karapatan, sukdulang isakripisyo nila ang buhay ng mga inosenteng sibilyan para lamang magkamal ng pabuyang salapi o promosyon. Sila ang pangunahing tagapaghasik ng terror sa mamamayan!

Marapat lang na kondenahin, dumugin ng protesta, at panagutin ang pasistang AFP sa pagdakip sa mga inosenteng sibilyang si Kadlos at Eming Lokmay, gayundin sa walang habas na pambobomba sa komunidad ng mga katutubo at sa panggigipit sa karapatang pantao ng mga sibilyan!

Sa ganitong kalagayan, walang ibang sasaligan ang aping mamamayan kundi ang rebolusyonaryong kilusan! Pinapakita lamang ng mga insidenteng ito na higit lalong dapat magkaisa ang mga mamamayan upang labanan ang terorismo at kabuktutan ng rehimeng US-Duterte! Ang inutang na dugo ng mga pasistang kaaway ay tutumbasan ng rebolusyonaryong hustisya ng demokratikong rebolusyong bayan, pangunahin sa pagsusulong ng armadong pakikibaka!

Sa inhustisyang inihahasik ng reaksyunaryong rehimeng US-Duterte sa ating bayan, makatuwirang tanganan ang armas at sumapi sa Bagong Hukbong Bayan, baguhin ang hindi makataong kairalan, at itayo ang makatarungang lipunan!

Ginahatag ang pagkilala sa determinasyon kag kaisog sang mga hangaway kag kumander sa pagpaninguha nga pangibabawan kag labi nga pataason ang lebel sang inaway banwa. Sa dalayon, ginakilala man ang pagkabaganihan sang mga rebolusyonaryong martyr kag ginahatag sa ila ang pagsaludar sa pagsakripisyo sang pinakamataas kag pinakadungganon sa tanan.

Sa 52 ka tuig, malayo na ang nalab-ot sang pagbato sang pumuluyo. Mas malig-on kag hamtong na sa pag-atubang sa mga pagpanghangkat sang rebolusyon. Sining naglipas nga isa ka tuig, padayon ang MNC (Mt. Napulak Command) sa pag-amot sa rehiyunal kag pungsudnon nga pagpaninguha nga paslawon ang desperado nga atkae sang taghumatayon nga rehimeng US-Duterte. Ang mga rebolusyonaryong mamumuo ilalom sa RCTU-SMR nagapadangat sa among Pulang pagsaludo isip pagtimbaya ngadto sa New People’s Army sa iyang ika-52 nga anibersaryo sa pagkatukod. Ang pagkatukod sa New People’s Army usa ka dakung kadaugan sa hut-ong pinahimuslan sa nasud tungod natibuok sulod sa organisasyon ang hiniusang kagustuhan sa masang Pilipino nga mosukol pinaagi sa armadong pakigbisog nga gigiyahan sa prinsipyong Marxismo-Leninismo-Maoismo ilalom sa Partido Komunista sa Pilipinas. Padayon usab nga nagadaghan ang ihap sa mga mag-uuma nga nawad-an og panginabuhian, kinsa mokabat na sa dili moubos sa 2 milyon gikan 2017 sukad sa
pag-implementar sa Rice Tariffication Law, ug sa dugay nang ginapatuman nga land-use conversion sa mga yutang agrikultural ug kawalay tiunay nga repormang agraryo.

Misulbong usab ang mga presyo sa palaliton hilabina sa mga pagkaon tungod sa walay suporta ngadto sa agrikultura ug pagpasagda sa mga kartel sa agrikultura sa paghakop sa binilyong ginansya. Grabe ang gisinating kalisod sa mga kabus sa lungsod tungod gawas sa walay saktong panginabuhian, halos walay ayuda ang gobyerno ni Duterte ngadto kanila. Ang pagka-inutil ni Duterte samot mitingkad panahon sa Covid-19 pandemya. Bisan pa man sa grabeng pag-atake sa reaksyunaryong estado ngadto sa armadong pakigbisog nga ginalunsad sa NPA, dako ang among pagsalig nga mapatigbabawan ug mapildi kini sa among tinuod nga hukbo sa katawhan tungod sa kahustohon sa programa sa rebolusyon. Milungtad ug milig-on ang New People’s Army tungod sa mabayanihong pagsalmot sa hut-ong mamumuo ug sa uban pang hut-ong sa armadong pakigbisog. Four revolutionary organizations representing different oppressed sectors in Southern Mindanao region forwarded highest praises to the New People’s Army (NPA) on its 52nd founding anniversary last March 29. Members of the Malayang Kilusan ng Bagong Kababaihan (Makibaka), Kabataang Makabayan (KM), Revolutionary Council of Trade Unions (RCTU), and Artista at Manunulat ng Sambayanan (ARMAS) congratulated Red commanders and fighters for their dedication to serve the people.

“For more than five decades of waging armed revolution, the NPA remains to be the genuine army of the people for its selfless aspiration for social justice and national liberation,” ARMAS-SMR said in a statement. The revolutionary group of artists, writers and cultural workers said that Red commanders and fighters continue to banner the highest interest of the Filipino people who have long yearned to be emancipated from the ills of a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society.

Founded in 1969, the NPA started as an army of 60 fighters in the province of Tarlac with only 34 weapons—only 25 of which were high-powered—and now lays its forces in 120 guerilla fronts throughout the country.

Despite GRP Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s more than 4 years of monstrous counterrevolutionary war, the NPA endures, according to Macario Santillan, spokesperson of RCTU-SMR, because of the correctness of the program of the national democratic revolution and the people’s support and active participation in the armed struggle.

Hardship and struggle in the time of pandemic

In their statements, which were read during the programs held in different guerilla fronts around the region, the revolutionary organizations highlighted the dire situation of their respective sectors, saying that the burden that the youth, women, workers, and cultural workers carry only doubled due to the Duterte regime’s failed response to the spread of Covid-19.

Karina Magtanggol, spokesperson of KM-SMR, reported that around 65,000 students have decided not to enrol in schools this academic year, twice more than last year’s number. “Some students even committed suicide due to the countless modules and schoolwork they had to accomplish, coupled with the immense pressure of the blended learning and other pressing problems,” she added.

Makibaka-SMR, through its spokesperson Ka Teresa, meanwhile, pointed out the Duterte regime’s continued disregard for healthcare, noting that while Covid-19 cases in the country already skyrocketed to 600,000 and the vaccination program remains lagging, corruption and fascism have become Duterte’s first priority. “Foreign debt has ballooned, while AFP modernization is set as priority over aggressive Covid testing and contact tracing,” Makibaka-SMR added.

The organizations also condemned the reactionary local government under presidential daughter Mayor Sarah Duterte for its treatment of the urban poor in many areas in Davao City. Santillan and Magtanggol attributed the dislocation of urban poor communities and the devastation of their livelihood to railroading of the ambitious Build, Build, Build program and other “modernization projects.”

The Duterte’s fascism worsened attacks and abuses against unarmed civilians and groups, especially those that expose and oppose the regime and call for social justice. Makibaka highlighted the case and condemned the treatment of Roshelle Porcadilla, a teacher of a Lumad school, who was arbitrarily arrested and suffered psychological torture in the hands of the PNP, following illegal raid conducted against the Lumad bakwit school in Cebu City last February.

The revolutionary organizations likewise scored the US-Duterte regime’s culture of impunity, macho-fascism, and neoliberalism, which is being propagated by the reactionary state propaganda machine. ARMAS-SMR denounced the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) for peddling the illusion of progress and trying to mask Duterte’s inutile, corrupt, and fascist regime. “Its so-called Dutertards or DDS flood all spaces with their blatant lies, fake news, and misrepresentations,” it said.

Without the Red army, the people have nothing

For the revolutionary forces in the region, the NPA is irreplaceable as the champion of the Filipino people, and is therefore endeared to the oppressed.

“With the masses’ unwavering support, the NPA will undoubtedly march forward step-by-step and the people’s protracted war will advance stage-after-stage towards victory,” ARMAS – SMR said.

“In this political climate of worsening crisis and suppression under the ruling class, the masses can depend on no one else to deliver them revolutionary justice but the New People’s Army,” Santillan stressed. He added that by punishing the oppressors of the people, the NPA gives inspiration and fervor to the masses to stand for their democratic rights.

“It is the dismantling of the reactionary state and the defeat of the reactionary armed force that is the peak of giving justice to the people,” he said.

ARMAS-SMR congratulated the NPA for the “daring and successful” tactical offensives its units launched against the AFP and PNP. According to the CPP, the NPA conducted over a hundred TOs in the past year.

The revolutionary groups highlighted that with even more of the oppressed masses from various sectors choosing to join the NPA, the victory of the democratic revolution is well within reach for the Filipino people. They likewise paid tribute to all martyrs from the NPA.

“The New People’s Army endured and strengthened because of the heroic participation of the working class and all classes in the armed struggle,” RCTU’s Santillan ended.

HADJI MOHAMMAD AJUL, Basilan Province – Two lying-low Abu Sayyaf Group members voluntarily surrendered at the Headquarters, 15th Special Forces Company here in Barangay Tuburan Proper on Thursday, 01 April 2021, as peace and development efforts in the locality are intensified.

One ASG returnee was identified as Abu Hatab, a former follower of the deceased ASG sub-leader Abdurajak Janjalani and later joined the group of Hamsiraji Sali. The other returnee was identified as Abu Jig, 32 years old, a resident of Barangay Macalang, Albarka, Basilan Province and a follower of ASG sub-leader Nurhassan Jamiri. They yielded one (1) caliber 30 US Garand rifle, one (1) M203 caliber 40 Grenade Launcher, one (1) fragmentation grenade, clips, and several rounds of live ammunitions.

Captain Sherwin D. Latiera, the Commanding Officer of 15SFC, welcomes the voluntary surrender of the two ASG members who have been lying-low for years and encourages the remaining members to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

“Pahalagahan natin ang ating buhay. Mas masarap ang mamuhay ng tahimik at mapayapa. Kagaya ng mga kapatid natin na ASG na ngayon ay nagbalik-loob sa pamahalaan, may panahon pa kayo upang magbagong buhay. Narito kami upang tumulong.”, Captain Latiera expressed.

The said ASG returnees will be enrolled in the Program Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) where they will undergo psychosocial interventions and trainings in preparation for their reintegration to the mainstream society as responsible and productive citizens.

Presently, there are almost three hundred ASG returnees who already laid down their arms here in Basilan Province as peace and development efforts by the Local Government Unit are intensified and continually gains ground.

CAUAYAN, Negros Occidental – Two Army soldiers conducting information collection in support to the Community Support Program (CSP) teams in the area were ambushed by the NPA terrorist, Saturday, April 3, 2021 at So Cambaga, Brgy Yao-yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

The soldiers were on the area to support the Community Support Program (CSP) team to help facilitate the resolutions of identified issues of the CSP while they “were fired upon and treacherously killed” by the NPA fighters.

Barangay Yao-yao is one of the areas in Negros Occidental where NPA terrorist thrive. The Community Support Program (CSP) operations in the area greatly affected the Communist Terrorist Groups.

15IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col Erwin Cariño said that “Our Soldiers sacrificed a lot and risk their lives in the service of the country to protect the people in Negros so we can have peace.”

“We honor the heroism and sacrificed of our fallen comrades and will ensure that justice will be served.” Cariño added.

Abril 4, 2021, Camp Jorge Downes, Ormoc City – Ang inyong kasundaluhan mula sa 93rd Infantry (Bantay Kapayapaan) Battalion ay tumugon sa impormasyong binigay ng isang sumukong NPA na nagsasabing may isa silang kasamahang inilibing sa Sitio Kapitungan, Brgy Libo, Carigara, Leyte. Ayon sa kanya, ang naturang NPA ay nasugatan noong nagkaroon ng sagupaan ang tropa ng 19th Infantry Battalion laban sa kanilang grupo noong Hulyo 18, 2015 sa Brgy Caghalo, Carigara, Leyte. Sa kadahilanang hindi siya binigyan ng agarang at karampatang lunas, siya ay namatay at minadaling inilibing lingid sa kaalaman ng kanyang mga mahal sa buhay.

Noong Abril 3, 2021, sa pakikipag-unayan sa Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) ng Rehiyon 8, isinagawa ang isang retrieval operation na binuo ng pinagsanib puwersa ng kapulisan ng Carigara, Leyte at 93rd Infantry Battalion upang hukayin at alamin ang pagkakakilanlan ng naturang bangkay. Sa tulong uli ng dating NPA, positibong niyang kinilala ang bangkay sa pangalang ELEAZAR SABIDALAS na mas kilala sa kilusan sa alyas na SANGAY. Si alyas SANGAY ay isang kumander ng dating Front Committee Leyte ng Eastern Visayas Revolutionary Party Committee.

Kasalukuyang hinahanap ang pamilya o kamag-anak ni alyas SANGAY upang ipabatid ang kanyang kalunos-lunos na sinapit at maihatid na rin siya sa huling hantungan. Ang naturang bangkay ay dinala sa Carigara Funeral Homes upang paghandaan ang isang maayos at marangal na libing.

Ayon sa salaysay ng dating kasamahang sumuko, ang walang pagpahalaga sa buhay ng bawat kasapi ang pangunahing dahilan kung kaya si alyas SANGAY ay tuluyang namatay. Sa halip na gamutin ang natamong sugat, siya ay sinadyang pinabayaan na siyang naging sanhi ng hindi pa napapanahong kamatayan.

Dagdag pa niya, karaniwan sa mga gawain ng teroristang CPP-NPA-NDF ay ang sadyang paglihim ng mga sinapit ng kanilang mga kasapi sa kani-kanilang pamilya. Layunin nito ay upang hindi magkaroon ng demoralisasyon sa kanilang hanay at hindi mabatid ng puwersa ng pamahalaan ang pagkakakilanlan ng bawat miyembro nilang nasawi.

Ayon kay Brigadier General Zosimo A. Oliveros, pinuno ng 802nd Infantry Brigade, “malinaw sa ating lahat na ang teroristang NPA ay walang pagpahalaga sa kanilang mga kasapi. Bale-wala sa kanila ang maaaring mararamdaman ng mga naulila, mga magulang na nawalan ng anak, mga kabataang nasira ang kinabukasan at mga pamilyang kanilang winasak. Sa kabila ng lahat, bilang mga Pilipino na may paniniiwala sa Panginoon, bigyan po natin ng halaga ang bawat buhay. Sa pagkakataong ito, nananawagan kami sa pamilya at kamag-anak, magtulungan po tayo para mabigyan ng marangal at maayos na libing ang ating kapwa Pilipino na si ELEAZAR SABIDALAS.”

The remains of an alleged high-ranking member of the New People’s Army (NPA) were retrieved by government troopers in a remote village in Carigara town, Leyte last Saturday, April 3.

Eleazar Sabidalas was reportedly buried by his comrades six years ago, according to a former rebel who provided the information to the army.

Based on the information, Sabidalas was buried in Sitio Kapitungan of Barangay Libo, Carigara last July 18,2015.

Sabidalas, who was known as “Sangay,” reportedly died after his group engaged government forces in an encounter in Barangay Caghalo in the same town.

Sabidalas reportedly served as a commander of the front committee of the Eastern Visayas Revolutionary Party Committee.

Captain Kaharudin Cadil, information officer of the 802nd Infantry Brigade (IB) based in Ormoc City, said they have yet to contact the family members of the former NPA leader before he would be buried in a public cemetery in Carigara town.

At present, the skeletal remains of Sabidalas were placed in a funeral parlor in the town.

In a statement, Brigadier Gen. Zosimo Oliveros, the commanding officer of the 802nd IB, said the recovery of the skeletal remains of the former NPA leader is an indication that the rebel group does not give value to human life.

“It is clear to us how the terror group, the NPA, does not value the life of their own comrade. They do not care how their loved ones feel,” he said.

“We are calling the loved ones of Eleazar Sabidalas to help us so we can give him a decent and proper burial,” Oliveros added.

The problem of insurgency continues to affect some parts of Leyte and the provinces of Samar.

During his March 18 visit to the region, President Duterte reiterated his desire to completely quell the insurgency problem of the country.

2 soldiers killed in ambush

Two Army soldiers were killed in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

Maj. Cenon Pancito, spokesman for the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, yesterday confirmed the death of the soldiers, who were members of the 15th Infantry Battalion.

The fatalities were on their way to a community support group when the rebels waylaid them in Sitio Cambaga in Barangay Yaoyao.

The soldiers were in civilian clothes, Pancito said.

A day earlier, police officers belonging to the Special Action Force and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 rescued a wounded rebel left behind by his comrades following an encounter in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.


The firefight lasted 10 minutes before the guerrillas fled, leaving behind their wounded comrade as well as several war materials, firearms, a grenade and personal belongings.

The rebel, whose name was not immediately available, was brought to a medical facility for treatment before he was turned over to authorities.

Over 360 rebels surrender

A total of 364 NPA rebels surrendered to authorities in Northern Luzon during the first quarter of this year.

The surrenderees turned over 34 firearms, Northern Luzon Command chief Lt.Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said on Saturday.

Last year, 396 rebels from Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and the Cordilleras returned to the fold of the law and were given assistance provided under the enhanced comprehensive localized integration program (E-CLIP) of the government.

“Those who surrendered in January and February are waiting for the release of their E-CLIP grants. The grant for those who surrendered last month are being processed,” Burgos said. – Ric Sapnu

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Two civilians, including a minor were badly hurt, after members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) detonated an anti-personnel mine in Barangay Allang, Ligao City, Albay on Saturday.

Jesus Posiquit, 39, and a 15-year-old minor were immediately brought to the nearest hospital after suffering injuries from the 8:22 a.m. explosion.

Lt. Col. Benjamin Tapnio, commander of the 49th Infantry Battalion (49IB), denounced the CTG for carrying out another ruthless act endangering the lives of civilians.

"This attack on the civilians proved that the CTG is desperate because of the effective implementation of the Community Support Program (CSP) and the whole-of-nation approach which brought significant damages against their useless cause," Tapnio said.

Col. Jaime Abawag Jr., head of the 902nd Infantry Brigade, already directed his troops to hunt down the communist terrorists responsible for the attack.

"We are now in close coordination with our counterpart in the PNP for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators including those who were involved in the planning of this crime. We will not allow them to go unpunished, for this was a treacherous attack against the Bicolanos," Abawag said.

The Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) under Army Maj. Gen. Henry A. Robinson Jr. strongly condemned the terroristic attack amid the observance of the Holy Week.

"Sibilyan na nga ang biniktima ng mga komunistang teroristang ito, ginawa pa nila ang pang-aatake sa mismong araw ng paggunita natin ng (The victims of these communist terrorists are civilians, and they did it during our observance of) Lenten season. This is an attack against our faith and against Christianity -- a total disrespect to our faith. They only proved us, especially to the Bicolanos, that they have lost their direction and purpose. They know nothing except to spread terror, violence and terrorism," Robinson said.

The CPP-NPA, which has been waging a more than a five-decade armed struggle against the government, is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
