Capt. Jade Bryce Bune, civil-military operations (CMO) officer of the 29th Infantry Battalion, said operating troops from the 29th and 30th IBs recovered a high-powered firearm, ammunition, medicines and equipment, subversive documents, kitchen utensils, and personal belongings.
The 29th IB CMO officer said they received reports from concerned civilians that communist rebels were conducting extortion activities in Barangay Concepcion and neighboring areas.
Troops conducted combat operations after validating the report, leading to an encounter against a band of NPA fighters from the Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad, Northland of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee under Kumander Rem.
Bune identified the fatality as Ka Yolly or Yang.
“Our troops facilitated the extrication of the cadaver in collaboration with the SOCO and Cabadbaran PNP, and the Cabadbaran city government also facilitated the proper burial arrangements of the killed CTG. We already reached out to the family of alias Yolly and the disposition of his remains,” said 29th IB commanding officer Lt. Col. Cresencio C. Gargar.
Gargar called on remaining members of the NPA in the Caraga region to surrender and assured that the military is committed to a fair and just process for those who choose the path of peace.
Soldiers are pursuing the fleeing rebels. No casualty was reported on the government side.
