Two alleged members of terrorist groups Daulah Islamiyah (DI) and Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed in an operation in Sumisip, Basilan on Tuesday, the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) said Wednesday.In a statement, the Westmincom said the two, whom the military did not name, were under DI-ASG subleader Mudzrimar Sawadjaan or Mundi and ASG subleader Pasil Bayali or Kera.
The Joint Task Force Basilan conducted a focused military operation against Mundi and Kera in Sitio Talisay, Barangay Upper Benembengan on the wee hours of Tuesday.
Two cadavers were recovered during the clearing operation.
The bodies were turned over to the barangay chairman of Upper Benembengan and the Sumisip Police for proper disposition, according to the military.
On Saturday, government troops were able to locate the harboring position of Mundi.
The operation resulted in the rescue of an Indonesian teenager identified as the son of the Jolo Cathedral suicide bomber, the militray said.
“Your armed forces will not stop its military operations until the terror groups are completely crushed,” Westmincom chief Lieutenant General Roy Galido said.
“We have highly motivated and committed forces currently deployed to eliminate the threats and secure the communities in Basilan,” he added.
