At least 110 identified former rebels from Davao de Oro are recipients of a PHP2.2 million worth of livelihood settlement grant Thursday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) said.
In a statement, DSWD-11 Director Vanessa Goc-ong said the beneficiaries received PHP20,000 each during a ceremony held at the provincial capitol in Nabunturan town.
“The grants will be used as capital on their [FR] proposed livelihood project to uplift their socio-economic well-being as they start anew,” she said.
Goc-ong assured that their agency will continue to assist former rebels who wanted to change their lives as they reintegrate into their communities.
Livelihoods such as neighborhood sundry stores, vegetable gardening, vulcanizing, and hog raising were identified by the recipients, according to her.
The fund was released through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of DSWD-11, which aims to improve the economic well-being of disadvantaged individuals and families in communities by mobilizing the support of the local government units and other government agencies.
Meanwhile, 2nd District Board Member Ruwina Gonzaga, who represented Governor Dorothy Gonzaga at the activity, also expressed her gratitude to the various government agencies for providing sustainable livelihood assistance to the NPA surrenderers and their families.
Gonzaga said the provincial government will also continue supporting programs and initiatives of the state forces in maintaining peace in Davao de Oro.
