ABOUT 10 to 20 armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) burned a backhoe at the quarry site in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday night, March 2, 2022.
Colonel Raymond Cruz, chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said based on the accounts of the caretaker of the quarry site owned by Melvin Ibanez, the suspects clad in black sweatshirts and pants arrived around 8 p.m.
The caretaker added that the armed men, who were just wearing slippers and were carrying gallons of gasoline, were looking for the backhoes owned by certain “Emmanuel” and “Chua,” Cruz said.
When they found one of the backhoes they were looking for, they poured gasoline and set it on fire, he also said.
The police chief added they have yet to determine the damage caused by the arson incident.
The caretaker said according to the suspects, they burned the backhoe because its owner was not paying revolutionary taxes.
