QUEZON CITY -- Seventeen (17) former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have received housing assistance totaling to around P7.6 million through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) program of the Task Force Balik-Loob (TFBL), an interagency group tasked by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to implement the reintegration projects for former rebels (FRs).
The ceremony, held on 09 August 2021 at the Almont Inland Resort in Butuan, was led by TFBL Chair and Department of National Defense Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu and General Manager Marcelino Escalada of the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Each of the 17 former rebels (FRs) received checks amounting to P450,000.00 that they can use to purchase a house and lot under the NHA’s housing program. Usec. Mapagu told the FRs that the housing benefit is only one among the many under the E-CLIP, which are being given to them by the government as a way to help them to enjoy a new life outside of the communist movement. He also asked them to encourage their former comrades to return to the fold of the government.
"Kayo ang patunay na sinsero ang ating mahal na pangulo at ang ating gobyerno sa mga alok nya sa mga former rebel. Sana kayo ang maging instrumento at tagapaghatid ng mensahe sa mga dati nyung kasamahan na magbalik loob narin sa gobyerno upang malaman nila na may magandang kinabukasan kung magbabalik loob," Usec. Mapagu said.
GM Escalada, on the other hand, reminded the FR recipients to take care of the house that they will build with the money that they received.
Apart from the 17 FRs who were already with their checks, the same housing benefit of 34 other surrendered rebels are already being processed and expected to be granted in a few weeks’ time.
Also present during the program were various officials from the province including Butuan Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada, Agusan del Norte 2nd District Representative Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba, Cabadbaran Mayor Judy Amante, Eastern Mindanao
Commander LtGen Greg Almerol and Agusan del Norte Governor/E-CLIP Committee Chairperson Dale Corvera. Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go also gave a message to the former rebels delivered through a video. (DND-TFBL)
