From Kalinaw News (Mar 13, 2021): Startroopers receive credit for successful campaign against insurgency
CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela- 21 Startroopers were awarded by LtGen Arnulfo Marcelo B Burgos Jr PA, Commander of Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) on March 13, 2021, at 502nd Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Echague, Isabela.
Of the 21 awardees, six were given the award of Meritorious Achievement Medal, nine were recipients of Gawad sa Kaunlaran and six were awarded Military Merit Medal. Through the continuous and focused campaign against insurgency in the Area of Responsibility of 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, Startroopers successfully dismantled the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla Quirino-Nueva Vizcaya in 2020 that greatly weakened the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Cagayan Valley Region. Additionally, 86th Infantry Battalion, 95th Infantry Battalion, 17th Infantry Battalion, 5th Military Intelligence Battalion, and 5th Civil-Military Operations Battalion were also awarded with the Battle Streamers Award for their combined efforts.
LtGen Burgos applauded the accomplishment of the troops and commended their strategies and tactics that significantly contributed to the downtrend of the terrorist CPP-NPA. “Pinasasalamatan ko ang ating mga ginawaran ng parangal ngayong araw na ito dahil sa kanilang kontribusyon sa ating laban kontra sa insurhensiya. Let this inspire you to achieve more and to do more. Nakikita natin ang resulta ng ating mga ginagawa kasama ang ating mga katuwang sa pagsugpo ng insurhensiya. Maganda itong pondasyon sa pag-umpisa ng taon.”
MGen Laurence E Mina PA, Commander of 5ID appreciated the visit of LtGen Burgos that boosted the morale of the Startroopers. “Isang karangalan na kilalanin ang tagumpay sa ating kampanya laban sa insurhensiya. Magsisilbi itong inspirasyon upang magpursige pa lalo ang bawat Startrooper sa pagganap ng kani-kanilang tungkulin.” He then assured that the 5ID will continue its unwavering campaign in ending the local communist armed conflict in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Regions.
