Buenavista, Agusan del Norte – More than five hundred (500) residents in Barangay Lower Olave, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte directly benefit from the food distribution activity which was conducted under the collaboration between the local government unit (LGU) of Buenavista, the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte and the 23rd Infantry “Masigasig” Battalion last November 13, 2020.

Said activity was in line with the first year anniversary celebration of AGUSAN-UP! Program of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte with the theme “Advancing opportunities, nurturing better lives”.

The AGUSAN-UP is the development imperatives of the province with the aim of improving the lives of the people of Agusan del Norte. It stands for Agriculture and processing optimization; Genuine concern for the poor and marginalized, youth and children, elderly and the Indigenous Peoples; Utilizing and capitalizing on government assets to raise revenues; Sustaining the gains of the previous administration and strengthening cooperation with the national government agencies; Advance the cause of peace and the rule of law and order; Natural greening of the environment and resiliency to climate change and disasters; Unity of vision, complementarity of mission and close coordination in the implementation of programs and projects among all government functionaries in the province; and People’s participation.

The successful conduct of the activity was propelled by the convergence of efforts of the Provincial Government represented by Ms. Jenny Fabian, together with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Ms. Silver Joy Tejano, and the 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion headed by its acting Commanding Officer, LT. Co. Julius Cesar C. Paulo.

The activity also aimed to eliminate the insurgency problem in the area through the implementation of the programs and services under Executive Order Number 70 or the “whole-of-nation approach to end the local communist armed conflict.

During the activity, Lower Olave Barangay Captain Jerry D. Escobella expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the government in Agusan del Norte and the 23IB in bringing support to the local populace in his area.

“We are thankful to the government and the 23IB for always giving the support needed by the residents of Buenavista. We are also grateful for the activities that will help in ending the insurgency problem in our community. With this, I assure the government that we will also take part in attaining a long-lasting peace and development for the betterment of our community,” Escobella said.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Paulo emphasized the full support of the 23rd IB to every activity of the government that will help end insurgency in the area.

“We will never get tired of serving and helping the people. The government has a lot to offer for the people of Agusan just to ensure their well-being by allowing them to live in peace in a progressive community,” Paulo said. ###
