CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Three more members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Dawlah Islamiyah Terror Group (DITG) surrendered on Wednesday (December 11) with their high-powered firearms in General Salipada K.Pendatun, Maguindanao.
Ustadz Yasser U. Saligan alias “Ustadz” with Norudin Dalinding alias “Survivor” and Omar Tatang alias “Jo” gave up to the JTFC and 6ID’s 40th Infantry Battalion and yielded one M14 rifle, one M1 Garrand rifle and two 81mm unexploded ordnance.
“We were blinded by the false promises of the terror group because we were only used as tools by selfish people who only seek power,” said one of the surrenderer.
“It was a horror living as a member of DITG and BIFF because of the thought that everyone is hunting us,” another rebel said.
The former rebels have realized that they have been fighting for the wrong cause and left their families neglected, according to Lt. Col. Rogelio S. Gabi, Commanding Officer of 40th Infantry Battalion.
“The unit is grateful to the surrenderers for making the right decision and I welcome them into a life full of hope and peace of mind,” Lt. Col. Gabi said.
The rebels were presented yesterday to Maguindanao Governor Honorable Bai Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu during the province’s Peace and Order Council Meeting.
Last Monday December 9, two members of BIFF also surrendered in Pikit, North Cotabato to 7th Infantry Battalion.
Joint Task Force Central Commander, Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon, expressed optimism that more members of the terror groups will follow what their former comrades did and enjoy the benefits that the government will offer for their livelihood.
The surrenderers expressed their gratitude to 40th IB for treating them humanely and for the trust and confidence during their surrender.
