From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 30): 2 Sayyaf men killed, 2 captured in Sulu clash
Two Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits were killed while two others were wounded and captured following a firefight in the hinterlands of Sulu, a top military official disclosed Tuesday.
Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said the clash happened around 5:08 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Lihbug Kabaw, Panglima Estino, Sulu.
Dela Vega said the troops were conducting focused military operations when they clash with around 100 ASG bandits led by ASG’s one-armed leader Radullan Sahiron and sub-leaders Idang Susukan and Almujer Yadah
The firefight resulted in the death of two ASG bandits and another two wounded and captured. No one was either killed or wounded among the Marine troops, who belong to the 61st, 62nd and 64th Marine Companies, dela Vega said.
Government troops recovered the remains of the two slain ASG bandits as well as one M653 “Baby Armalite” rifle and one M-15 rifle from the clash site.
The two captured ASG bandits, meanwhile, were taken to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo, Sulu for proper medical attention.
“I commend the troops of the Joint Task Force Sulu for their unrelenting efforts to eradicate the menace of society,” dela Vega said.
The focused military operations aim to rescue the 10 remaining hostages who are still being held captives by the ASG bandits in Sulu, including two foreigners -- Dutch and Vietnamese -- and eight Filipinos.
