Posted to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Website (Nov 28): Prominent personalities express support for Passage of BBL during Bangsamoro Assembly
The program for the Bangsamoro Assembly officially started this morning at around 8:05 at the gymnasium of the Old Provincial Capitol, Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao with Prof. Raby Angkal, Chief of Staff of the Office of BTC Chair Ghazali Jaafar acting as Emcee.
It started with a recitation of some verses of the Noble Qur’an by Qur’an followed by a welcome address by former Mayor Tucao Mastura of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. “I believed that the passage of BBL reflects the aspirations of the Bangsamoro people”, he said.
Former Cotabato City Mayor, and currently Chair of MNLF Bangsamoro Peoples’ Assembly said, “We are here as one people fighting for our rights as Bangsamoro. “We are one in aspiration, so we should be united to support this undertaking. So, we strongly support the Bangsamoro Basic Law”, he said further.
BTC-Commissioner Atty. Jose Lorena pointed out, “We have to stand united on the articulation of Bangsamoro Basic Law as approximation of the rights of the Bangsamoro people. He told the audience that “Congress is going to pass the BBL, and hoping to finish it by March of 2018.”
1st District of Maguindanao Representative, and HoR Deputy Speaker Bai Sandra Sema told the participants about the series of lobbying they made with the Office of the House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez who ultimately agreed to act as principal author of the BBL that became House Bill o. 6475.” She also requested top personalities at the stage composed of MILF, MNLF and BTC Commissioners, and other leaders to stand up to show that they are united for peace as Bangsamoro.
Regional Governor of ARMM, Hon. Mujiv Hataman said; “Hindi po ako pumunta dito bilang sympathizer, Hindi rin po ako andito dahil ako ay MILF o MNLF, ngunit andito ako dahil kasama ninyo ako!”
Maguindanao Provincial Governor Esmail “Toto” Mangudadatu said, “I am a Moro, let us be united on this aspiration, this is for all of us.”
For his side, Rev. Cardinal Orlando Quevedo of the Archdiocese of Cotabato described his observations on the BBL as the new BBL will be passed by congress as soon as possible in compliant with the FAB, and the CAB; the BTC made a good job with the new BBL clearly constitutional, and BBL is a symbol of unity.
MILF Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal told the participants at the gym that, ”BBL is the last recourse of the government to end the Bangsamoro problem.”
Generally, all messages delivered by MILF, MNLF, BTC, and religious leaders firmly support the immediate passage of BBL.
