From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 25): President Duterte rejects PNP-AIDG chief’s resignation
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has rejected the resignation of Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (PNP-AIDG) director Senior Supt. Albert Ignatius Ferro.
PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said Ferro's resignation offer was brought to the President's attention on Sunday.
Dela Rosa added that the President's reply was "resign if you are involved, but since you are not involved, just continue with your work."
Dela Rosa said Ferro's offer to resign was out of embarrassment in connection with the alleged involvement of a few rogue policemen in the AIDG in the killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo.
Joo was allegedly abducted and subsequently killed inside Camp Crame, Quezon City on Oct. 18, 2016.
Likewise, the PNP chief said he will implement a large-scale reshuffling of personnel in the AIDG where all current personnel and prospective candidates to positions affected in the move will be subjected to thorough background checks.
Currently, the PNP-AIDG has 330 personnel.
Dela Rosa stressed Ferro will remain in his position as director of the AIDG because he still retains the full trust and confidence of the President and the PNP Chief.
