Four former rebels in Negros Occidental receive PHP200,000 in livelihood assistance

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 22): Four former rebels in Negros Occidental receive PHP200,000 in livelihood assistance

Four rebel returnees in Negros Occidental received livelihood assistance worth PHP50,000 each, or a total of PHP200,000, under the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The assistance were distributed to the former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, whose identities were not revealed, in rites led by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. Wednesday.

The turn-over was witnessed by Col. Francisco Delfin, commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ma. Lina Sanogal, Provincial Health Officer Ernell Tumimbang, and personnel of the DILG.

Through the CLIP, the DILG aims to assist rebel returnees as they re-integrated into mainstream society, and help in the achievement of the goal of permanent and peaceful closure of all armed conflicts with non-state armed groups.

Military records show that as of 2011, more than 100 former rebels in Negros Occidental have availed of financial and livelihood assistance from the provincial government and the DILG.
