Two troopers from the 68th Infantry Battalion were hurt
after they were ambushed by New People's Army (NPA) bandits in Sitio Bayabas,
Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod town, Davao Del Norte Tuesday.
The rebel attack was followed by a IED blast, Eastern
Mindanao Command public affairs office chief Capt. Alberto Caber said.
The ambush took place at 7:50 a.m.
He added the two soldiers suffered minor shrapnel wounds and
burns due to the explosion.
The two are now in stable condition after being given
first-aid treatment by their fellow troopers.
First-aid care was immediately applied by the troops to the
wounded personnel and they are now in stable condition.
IEDs are being use as a landmine by NPA bandits in their
attack against civilians, civilian properties and government troops.
68th Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Zosimo Oliveros
said that the bandit group immediately withdrew after a 20 minute firefight in
the area.
"Pursuit operations are still ongoing," he added.
Civilians reported that the bandits planted several
landmines in the area to instill fear among the villagers.
The manufacture and use of IED or landmines are prohibited
under the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect of Human Rights and International
Humanitarian Law.
