From InterAksyon (Jun 7): 2 Aby Sayyaf members fall as soldiers foil Sulu trader's kidnapping
Soldiers foiled the kidnapping of a businesswoman at the weekend in Patikul Sulu, and subsequently captured two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, the military said Sunday.
Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, chief of the Public Affairs Office of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, identified suspects as Ayatukka Andam Araban and Jurpin Talib Abdulahim, who yielded a Norinco caliber .45 (with serial number 9116550) with four live ammunition.
There is a standing arrest warrant for murder issued by a Regional Trial Court (RTC) against Araban.
“The two were cornered by security forces at around 7:25 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Buhanhinan. They were among a group of ASG who participated in the foiled kidnapping of a certain Mrs. Hablo,” Cabunoc said.
Two getaway motorcycles were recovered in Barangay Umangay when the rest of the ASG team broke up into groups and fled to different directions upon sensing the presence of security forces, he added.
Investigators are not saying how the victim is related to two men with the same surname (Hablo) who were abducted by the ASG in 2009 and 2013 in Zamboanga City and Sulu, respectively.
According to AFP and police records, Eiseo Hablo, a fishing magnate and operator of two bakeshops, was abducted on January 8, 2009, by the ASG but was rescued on February 10 at a safe house in Southcom Village, Barangay Calarian, Zamboanga City.
On October 22, 2013, John Archie Hablo Jr., 29, owner of Sincere Hardware Enterprises in Walled City in Jolo, Sulu was abducted by the ASG. There is no report yet if Hablo has been released.
