From the Sun Star-Davao (Jun 11): 12 NPA men face raps for murder
POLICE filed charges before the City Prosecutor's Office (CPO) against 12 suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) who clashed with Army troops at Sitio Islid, Barangay Daladag in Calinan district last May 6.
Facing charges for murder and frustrated murder are Benjack Banan, Jerwin Montajes, Junriel Durante, while Arfel Casanillo alias Bobot, Cocoy Rolian, Gualberto Aligato, Berdan Ramos, Aida Seisa, Arnold Montajes alias Jong-jong, Leonilo Gonzales, Ariel Badiang, and Leoncio Pitao were charged for frustrated murder.
All accused are of legal age and transient residents of Barangay Dominga in Calinan.
It can be recalled that members of the 69th Infantry Battalion were patrolling the area when they encountered with members of the NPA under the Pulang Bagani Command 1 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Command headed by Leoncio Pitao alias Kumander Parago.
Records showed that the encounter resulted to the death of four soldiers and the wounding of eight others.
The case has yet to be resolved by Prosecutor Faizal Padate.
