CAMP CAPINPIN, TANAY, Rizal -- General
Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP) awarded Military Merit Medals to eight Officers and Enlisted
Personnel who recently recovered High Powered Firearms in General Nakar, Quezon
during his visit to the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter)
Division (2ID) based in Camp Gen Mateo Capinpin, Sampaloc Village, Tanay, Rizal
on Monday..
Catapang was accorded with military honors led by Brigadier
General Romeo G. Gan, who is the newly installed as the 36th Commander of the
2nd Infantry Division, PA in a turned over ceremony last February 3, 2015.
In his talk with the Jungle Fighters, Gen. Catapang
emphasized the AFP’s major thrusts under his leadership and urged the troops to
strictly adhere to the AFP’s slogan of “Kawal DISIPLINADO, bawal ABUSADO, dapat
ASINTADO” for them to be respectful of human rights, adhere to international
humanitarian law and rule of law, as well as the rules of engagement of the
IPSP Bayanihan.
He congratulated the officers and men of 2ID led by BGen Gan
for the job well done. He urged the troops to continue efforts on Bayanihan,
pursuing the AFP Transformation Roadmap and maintain good rapport with the
civilian stakeholders in achieving peace in the region.
He said the soldiers will closely coordinate with the local
governments to help build “bridges for peace”, “schools for peace”, “hospitals
for peace”, and “roads for peace”. Also of paramount consideration under his
leadership is enhancing humanitarian assistance and disaster response
capabilities of the armed forces.
