Troopers from the 44th Infantry Battalion and the local police have arrested two brigands during operations in Barangay Tenan, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Saturday morning.
Capt. Jefferson Mamauag, 1st Infantry Division spokesperson, identified the arrested lawless elements as Hajer Dunggan and Alvin Prontosa, both members of the band headed by one Mamay Aburi.
He added that the suspects were nabbed around 5: 30 a.m.
Government forces conducted the joint law enforcement operation by virtue of Warrant of Arrest case number I-5472 and 5473.
Aburi’s group is notorious for kidnapping, extortion and piracy in Zamboanga Sibugay.
The group was responsible for the kidnapping of Alexa Dela Cruz of Barangay Kima, Payao last Jan. 11.
Recovered from the suspects were one M-16 automatic rifle, an M-14, one Garand rifle, two fragmentation grenades, one commercial detonating cord, assorted ammunition and three motorized pump boats.
Three other members of the group escaped and evaded arrest.
The suspects were turned-over to the Police Provincial Office in Ipil for investigation and appropriate filling of the case.
