Anticipating the planned atrocity of the New People’s Army (NPA) to highlight its anniversary on March 29, Maj. Ray Tiongson, chief of the Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) of 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army, said, "the army in Western Visayas has intensified operations in order to protect the government’s vital installations and to ensure safety and security of the people."

Actually he said, whether it is their anniversary or not, the NPA is expected to conduct atrocity as long as they have the opportunity. "But it is their usual compliance to their leadership to score against government troops as well as by targeting soft targets during the anniversary."

In Negros and Panay Islands, Major Tiongson said, "we are always on our toes after the lawless armed elements who are threatening and intimidating civilians."

Early this week the army in Negros Oriental reported that it was able to abort the plan of the enemy to attack a government installation after the civilians informed the army on the presence of armed men in their locality, that resulted to firefight and running gun battle between the two forces. The enemy then withdrew to different directions.
