Suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) on Tuesday set off two improvised explosive devices along a major highway in Maguindanao that left a women slightly wounded, police here said.

Police Senior Inspector Gani Miro, chief of police of Parang town in Maguindanao, said the first explosion occurred from a roadside bomb recorded at 6:30 a.m. along the Secretary Narciso Ramos highway, particularly in Barangay Pinantao, Parang, Maguindanao.

Miro said Erlinda Bolanes, a commuter on board a Nissan Vanette, was slightly wounded when the blast occurred. She was declared out of danger by hospital staff of Camp SK Pendatun hospital.

According to Miro, Bolanes and three other family members from Barangay Sarmiento, Parang, Maguindanao, were heading toward Pagadian City when the improvised bomb went off.

Miro quoted bomb experts as saying that the twin IEDs were fashioned from 60 mm mortars with mobile phone as trigger mechanism.

Portions of the Cotabato-Pagadian highway were temporarily shut down for about an hour.

The road also served as the only route toward the headquarters of the 601st Infantry Brigade in Barira, Maguindanao.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack.
