MARAMAG, Bukidnon – 22 June 2020, the troops of 88th Infantry “Maringal” Battalion encountered NPA terrorists of Guerilla Front Malayag, SRC2, NCMRC led by Kim Banawan aka MIGS in an uninhabited and hinterland area of Barangay Canangaan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.

The government troops skirmished with more or less 20 NPA terrorists that lasted for about 15 minutes of a gunfight. It resulted in the seizure of four (4) M16 Rifles, one (1) Carbine, one (1) Improvised M203 Grenade Launcher, assorted medicines, and personal belongings.

While the government troops were conducting clearing operations on the encounter site, another 2 consecutive encounters transpired against more or less 15 NPA terrorists. These resulted to the additional capture of one (1) C4 land mine, two (2) Anti-personnel mines, six (6) mobile phones, a laptop computer, four (4) M14 Magazines, three (3) Burners, assorted medicines, personal belongings, two (2) Identification cards with pictures, and subversive documents with high intelligence value. No government casualty was recorded during the series of encounters.

It can be recalled that last 19, June 2020, the government forces immediately conducted pursuit operation after the burning incident, throwing of a grenade to the PNP checkpoint, and land mining of PNP personnel in Cabanglasan. The terrorist group encountered by the government troops was the one responsible for the recent terroristic activities in the area.

Lt. Col Franklin F Fabic, Commanding Officer of 88IB lauded the government troops for their bravery and commitment in protecting civilian communities in far-flung areas against these communist terrorists.

Fabic also commended the community of Sitio Saluringan, Sitio Tumbaga, Sitio Tagbacan all of Barangay Canangaan, and the LGU of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon for the cooperation and information they shared to government troops that led to this major engagement. It manifests the strong support of local communities to the efforts of the government in ending the local communist armed conflict in the area.

“While we continue with our efforts in bridging government services in far communities, we are determined to utilize all our might to destroy the armed components of these communist NPA terrorists who remain to be the menace of society.” LTC Fabic added.
