MARAWI CITY, May 7 -- The commander of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division awarded the troops of 49th Infantry (Good Samaritans) Battalion for their successful encounter against Bingo Coy, SRC-5, NCMRC on 25 April 2020 at Brgy Buntalis, Lumba-Bayabao, Lanao del Sur.

The Military Merit Medal with Spearhead Device was confered to the personnel of 49IB by Major General Generos “Gene” Ponio for their heroic achievements and dauntless performance during their engagement against Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

During that encounter, the 49IB was able to neutralize one NPA member and recovered high-powered firearms and other war materiel.

“The achievement showed that we are the dependable force in protecting the communities against all form of threats, either a visible terrorist group or invisible COVID-19 disease. As we continue with our duties, ensure to protect yourselves and the people not only against with Communist Terrorists Group but also against COVID-19 pandemic," MGen. Ponio said.

“We have to realize that while we wanted to focus our efforts to help out people in preventing the local transmission of COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot just turn blind to what these terrorist groups are planning to annihilate our communities. Let us maintain this excellent performance, let us not allow these terrorists to continue their extortionist activities," he added.

MGen Ponio ended his message commending the Good Samaritan troopers for a job well done. He also reminded them to remain vigilant against the enemies and continue to perform their mandated duties. (Tabak Division/PIA ICIC)
