TAGO, Surigao del Sur, May 7 – A total of 88 Former Rebels who surrendered to the Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion and have returned to the folds of the law received a Cash for Work assistance, yesterday May 6, 2020, held at Sitio Ibuan, Brgy Mampi, Lanuza, this province.
The 88 Former Rebels received a total amount of 844,800 pesos under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
It can be recalled that a total of 88 Former Rebels from March 2018 had voluntarily surrendered to the Community Support Programs (CSP) of the 36th Infantry Battalion and availed the government intervention package to former rebels, the Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
The distribution of TUPAD cash for work assistance was spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) headed by Ms. Genebelle Bal, Provincial Head of DOLE, SDS facilitated by the Local Government Unit of Lanuza lead by Alfredo Antojado, Municipal Administrator.
The activity was attended by TESDA SDS, Provincial Director, Rey Cueva, together with Ms. Genebelle Bal, Provincial Head of DOLE, SDS, Dir Pedrito Alacaba, DILG SDS, Ms. Hershey Nunez, Provincial E-CLIP Focal Person, Lt Col Jezreel J Diagmel, Commanding Officer 36IB, Engr. Charline Binghoy, OIC, NCIP SDS, Ms. Paz Eloiza Aquino, DAR Operation Officer, Alfredo Antojado, Municipal Administrator of Lanuza, and the former rebels and locals of Sitio Ibuan, Mampi.
In a statement, Lt Col Jezreel J Diagmel, Commanding Officer of 36IB said that the TUPAD cash for work assistance is a manifestation that the government is sincere in its efforts in helping the Former Rebels in mainstreaming to the society.
“We recognized the efforts of the DOLE Surigao del Sur for giving importance to the Former Rebels in this time of COVID 19 crisis. Through the TUPAD, even when they are in the disadvantaged and isolated community, the government is still working to reach them out and provided their needs as they battle to survive their daily life,” Lt Col Diagmel said. “The most important is your acceptance and your commitment to the government to be resilient individuals in order to contribute to the attainment of just and lasting peace in the province”, Lt Col Diagmel ended.
