TAGO, Surigao del Sur, May 7 – The Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) pilot community received aid amid COVID 19 pandemic crisis yesterday May 6, 2020, held at Sitio Ibuan, Brgy Mampi, Lanuza, this province

A total of 139 families have benefited the said assistance, all from Sitio Ibuan, Brgy Mampi, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur.

It can be recalled that Sitio Ibuan is a former stronghold of the Communist NPA Terrorist in the province of Surigao del Sur. The first in the province to declare CPP-NPA as “Persona-Non Grata” condemned and renounced all forms of affiliation to any CPP-NPA organization. It became a pilot community project for peace and development interventions of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) under the EO 70 of the government which calls for the Whole of Nation Approach to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict.

The PRLEC of Surigao del Sur chaired by TESDA has distributed a total of 30 sacks of rice and 139 relief goods composed of canned goods, noodles, and soap intended to the locals of the said place. The said sacks of rice were donated through the Congressional Office of the 1st District of Surigao del Sur, while relief goods were donated by the PRLEC members through contribution coming from their own personal savings.

Also, during the activity, a total of 88 former rebels who surrendered to the Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion and returned to the folds of the law received a total worth of 844,800 pesos under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Displaced Workers (TUPAD), a cash for work assistance by the Department Of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The activity was attended by TESDA SDS, Provincial Director, Rey Cueva, together with Ms. Genebelle Bal, Provincial Head of DOLE, SDS, Dir Pedrito Alacaba, DILG SDS, Ms. Hershey Nunez, Provincial E-CLIP Focal Person, Lt Col Jezreel Diagmel, Commanding Officer 36IB, Engr. Charline Binghoy, OIC, NCIP SDS, Ms. Paz Eloiza Aquino, DAR Operation Officer, Alfredo Antojado, Municipal Administrator of Lanuza, and the former rebels and locals of Sitio Ibuan.

In his message, Lt Col Jezreel J Diagmel, Commanding Officer of 36IB lauded the efforts and the bold move of the member of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster and the Local Government Unit of Lanuza for their never-ending support to the Former Rebels and leading the fight in combating insurgency amid COVID19 crisis.

“I am impressed with the convergence initiative of the PRLEC Surigao del Sur in helping the Former Rebels and the locals of Sitio Ibuan in battling the long-running insurgency in the province. It is a manifestation that the government is sincere to achieve a genuine reform in ending the local communist armed conflict,” army official added “Once again, I’m calling everyone to take part in this quest. Let us end this futile armed struggle, let us join hands and work in unison and converge our efforts and resources for us to achieve the peace that we are longing for,” Lt Col Diagmel concluded.
