Kalinaw News: Army, PNP intensifies joint community security patrols

CAMP GERONA, Murcia, Negros Occidental –Joint AFP-PNP elements of 94th Infantry Battalion and PNP personnel of Bindoy Municipal Police Station encountered undetermined number of NPA terrorists in Sitio Namunduan, Brgy Cambudlas, Bindoy, Negros Oriental at 4:05 P.M. yesterday, April 30, 2020 (Thursday).

The joint AFP-PNP community security patrol was on their way back to their base when they received reports from the civilian populace regarding the presence of NPA Communist Terrorist Group conducting extortion in their barangay amidst the crisis of COVID-19. While on their way to the area, the joint AFP-PNP elements were fired upon by the NPA terrorists that triggered a fierce gunfight at short distance.

Exchange of fire lasted for more than 30 minutes afterwhich the enemy scampered towards different directions.

The encounter resulted in the minor wounding of one (1) soldier while three (3) NPA members killed and undetermined number of casualties based from the heavy bloodstains found in the NPA position and route of withdrawal. First aid was immediately applied to the wounded soldier who was slightly hit in his right hand.

The troops were able to recover at the encounter site the following war materials; One (1) Shotgun with live ammunitions, one (1) bandoliers with magazines and live ammunitions, two (2) Backpacks, one (1) rifle grenade, six (6) pairs of rain boots, medical supplies and paraphernalias, subversive documents, & other personal belongings. Troops are still pursuing the fleeing NPA terrorists.

Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander, Philippine Army stated that “This clearly shows that the terrorist NPAs are unwanted and despise in the communities especially by the populace who reported their presence. The populace are doing their part in order to make their communities peaceful and free from NPA influence”.

“I urge the people of Bindoy as well the whole people of Negros Island to continue reporting the presence of these NPA Terrorists in their communities in order for us to prevent their extortion and other terroristic activities in the area”. We will be pursuing them relentlessly to maintain and preserve the peace and security of Negros Island” Col Pasaporte added.
