Kalinaw News: Troops rescue pregnant NPA Amazon in Agusan del Norte

Posted to Kalinaw News (Apr 30, 2020): Troops rescue pregnant NPA Amazon in Agusan del Norte (By 23rd Infantry “Masigasig” Battalion)

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte — A 9- month pregnant NPA amazon abandoned by her comrades was rescued by the troops of 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion at Sitio Bancaling, Purok 8, Brgy Nong-nong, Butuan City on April 29, 2020 at around 7:30 in the evening.

This came after a concerned citizen tip-off the presence of a pregnant woman who was left to the care of NPA supporter or “masa”. She was then approached by the army troops which she immediately narrated her ordeal. She then asked for help from the soldiers to assist her now that she’s about to deliver her third child.

Upon the order of Lt. Col. Francisco L. Molina Jr, the Commanding Officer of 23rd Infantry “Masigasig” Battalion based in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, alias Lina (not her true name for security reason), she was immediately brought to the military camp where she was fed and provided her personal needs then proceeded to the hospital for her medical check-up.

(I was first hesitant to go with the soldiers because our NPA Commanders told us that when we surrender to the soldiers, we will be tortured and raped. These is not true. The truth is, the soldiers fed me and provided my personal needs then brought me to the hospital for my medical check-up.)

Lt. Col. Molina Jr. expressed his gratitude again to the concerned citizen for providing information on the situation and whereabouts of alias Lina.

“It is indeed heartwarming that another victim of the CPP-NPA is saved. This pregnant woman abandoned by her comrades is another example that the CPP-NPA doesn’t respect the human rights of their members especially the pregnant women. We again call on the remaining victims of the CPP-NPA to think about your situation. While you still have time, go back to the folds of the law. Go back and be with your family.” – Molina added.
