The country's military chief on Thursday thanked all workers especially those at the front lines containing the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat.

"Your diligence, determination, and hard work continue to inspire the Filipino nation in these difficult and trying times," Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff, Gen. Felimon Santos Jr., said in a press statement, ahead of the commemoration of Labor Day on Friday.

Despite the dangers due to an "unconventional enemy", Santos said the Filipinos' spirit of resiliency lives on and is exemplified by the heroic efforts of the country's workforce.

"Day by day, the AFP bear witness to the admirable courage of the Filipino workforce as they risk their lives to win over the many challenges we face today," he added.

He also took this opportunity to honor the "unwavering resolve of our uniformed service members" who continue to combat head-on dangers posed by Covid-19 but also the "virus of communist terrorism and violent extremism".

"Rest assured that your AFP will continue with its initiatives to protect the best interest and well-being of our workforce, particularly those in the front lines," Santos said.

In honor of the Filipino labor force, he assured the public that the people's health will always be of utmost importance as this is the Philippines' most valuable asset in achieving just and lasting peace and development.
