PILI, CAMARINES SUR, April 28 (PIA)— 9th Infantry “Spear” Division Commander, MGEN Fernando T. Trinidad condemned the “dastardly act” committed by the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) against the government troopers who only intend to help the government in responding to the needs of communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trinidad was referring to the latest reprehensible attack made by the CTGs against government officials who just came from distributing Social Amelioration Cash to Masbatenos in different barangays of Monreal severely affected by the said pandemic.

In a press statement, Trinidad said that this utter lack of CTGs consideration to the community has resulted to the injury of a policeman who was only helping to facilitate the smooth flow of SAP distribution but was unfortunately hit by a shrapnel in the head from an explosion of anti-personnel mine. Another civilian employee also sustained gunshot wound on his back.

“The communist terrorists once again demonstrated their anti-people and anti-poor color when they launched a terroristic attack against government officials who just came from distributing Social Amelioration Cash to Masbatenos in different barangays of Monreal who are severely affected by the COVID 19 Pandemic,” Trinidad said.

Trinidad further said that the recent incident is the Comunist Terrorists' desperate attempt to show that they can still launch attacks despite the heavy casualties and losses they suffered during recent encounters with elements of the 2nd Infantry (Second to None) Battalion.

“It can be recalled that our troops in the 2IB dealt a decisive blow to the CTGs when they recovered a total of 16 high powered firearms, anti personnel mines and different subversive equipment and supplies after the encounter in Brgy Salvacion on 19 April 2020. The CTG suffered huge casualties as attested by witnesses who saw the fleeing terrorists dragging with them their dead and wounded comrades,” the Commander added.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the government’s gear from its various programs to a unified effort towards combating the spread of the corona virus in the country. This has been cascaded down to the local level to ensure that more deaths will be prevented and precautions are properly implemented.

In this fight, men in uniform, particularly the government troopers – the 9th Infantry Division and its battalions including the Philippine National Police (PNP) has extended its hand to give all the assistance the government needs in order to reach even individuals in the country sides.

Even with the unfortunate incident, Trinidad told his men not to be distraught by the attack, remain vigilant and continue protecting the communities.

“I urge the 2IB under LTC Siegfried Felipe F Awichen to continue to protect the people of Masbate from the scourge of Communist Terrorism and help the LGUs mitigate the effect of COVID 19 Pandemic. I also encourage the troops to continue assisting government agencies and the LGUs in dealing with the deadly COVID and addressing all threats in Bicol Region.” (LSMacatangay, with reports from CPT JP Belleza- 9ID DPAO, PA-PIAV/Camarines Sur)
