Posted to Kalinaw News (Apr 30, 2020): 402nd Brigade intensifies COVID-19 Information Awareness Campaign, airdrops leaflets to far flung communities in Caraga (By 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade)

Bancasi, Butuan City – The 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigadehas extended its reach on COVID-19 Information Awareness Campaign by air-dropping leaflets and face masks to the far flung communities within its area of responsibility (AOR) in Caraga on Wednesday morning, April 29, 2020.

The 402nd Brigade, in coordination with the Tactical Advance Command Post (TACP), Tactical Operations Group (TOG) 10 of the Philippine Air Force, air-dropped a total of ten thousand (10, 000) leaflets and two hundred (200) face masks to the far flung communities and settlements of Butuan City; Municipalities of Kitcharao, Jabonga, Tubay and Cabadbaran City all of Agusan del Norte; Municipalities of Alegria and Gigaquit both of Surigao del Norte; and Municipality of Sibagat of Agusan del Sur.

Recognizing the difficulty in disseminating information on COVID-19 in the remotest communities in its AOR, the 402nd Brigade utilized helicopters to reach out and encourage residents in these areas to observe the DOH issued protocols and health care management procedures to prevent infection and entry of COVID-19 in their villages.

While Caraga region has only three (3) confirmed cases of COVID-19 compared to other high risk regions, the 402nd Brigade continues to look for innovative ways to support the Regional Task Force COVID 19 “One Caraga Shield” in its fight to contain the spread of the virus and prevent entry of possible carriers in the region.

It can be recalled that the 402nd Brigade together with its OPCON Battalions (23IB 29IB, 30IB, and 36IB), as part of its intensified information awareness campaign, has been conducting loudspeaker operation and distribution of leaflets to include utilization of social media platforms to promote awareness on the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

In his statement, Brigadier General Maurito L Licudine, Commander of the 402nd Brigade, said “The AFP utilizes its air assets as part of its commitment to support the RTF COVID 19 “One Caraga Shield”. We saw the need to extend our reach to those who live in the far flung areas because they are also vulnerable to the COVID 19 virus. They seem to underestimate the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic thinking that they are far from the town centers and urban areas”.

“We urge all Caraganons to continue to stay at home and strictly follow protocols. Let’s continue to be more vigilant and cooperate with the government to fight this COVID-19 pandemic until a vaccine is discovered for its cure. Stay alive and keep safe”, BGen Licudine ended.
