From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Aug 20): GROUND BREAKING | Construction of Memorial Monument for Marawi fallen heroes begins
FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila- The Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Memorial Monument for the fallen heroes of Marawi was held on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani.
Lieutenant General Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, Commanding General Philippine Army led the said event along with other senior officers of HPA. The construction of pylon and its ground development was made possible through the generosity of Tabang Malasakit Foundation, Inc., who donated an amount of 12 Million Pesos. The project will also be capped by a construction of murals, that depicts heroism and gallantry of soldiers, which will be taken cared off by the Command.
The sculptural mural will highlight the heroism of soldiers in the Battle of Marawi in various aspects such as in relief-style sculpture on the Marawi Siege. It will also show the soldiers various roles such as protectors, freedom fighters, humanitarians and as liberators/rehabilitators.
The design composition of the various sculptural figures in the mural will be based on references such as the book “Marawi and Beyond” and the photos provided by Philippine Army.
In his message, Lt. Gen. Bautista said that he is grateful about the project and he reiterated that the heroism of our troops were stories of inspiration that are worth emulating and remembering. OACPA / MCAG
