From the Philippine Daily Inquirer (Aug 24): Cop gunned down by suspected NPA rebels in Sorsogon town

A policeman was shot dead by suspected members of New People’s Army in Bulan town in Sorsogon province on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Tejada, director of Sorsogon Police said Senior Police Officer 1 Nestor Austero, 40, chief of investigation division of Bulan police was shot to death by three armed rebels in Barangay (village) Somagongsong at around 4:20 p.m.

Tejada said based on the investigations, the suspects approached and shot the victim who sustained four gunshot wounds in his head.

The rebels also carted away the service firearm and motorcycle of the victim.
