The government troops have killed a member of the Abu Sayyaf
Group (ASG) and recovered four high-power firearms following a firefight in the
hinterlands of Sulu, the military reported Thursday.
Capt. Ma. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom)
information officer, said the Joint Task Group Sulu identified the slain ASG
member as a certain Murasil, a trusted aide of Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan, a
mid-level leader of the ASG.
Muyuela said the firefight ensued around 9:10 a.m. Thursday
at Sitio Kan Udang, Barangay Taglibi, Patikul, Sulu.
Muyuela said the firefight broke out when the Joint Task
Group Sulu headed by 1Lt. Dennis Arado chanced upon the group of Sawadjaan
while they were conducting law enforcement operation in Sitio Kan Udang,
Barangay Taglibi.
She said the troops have also recovered four high-power
firearms abandoned by the Abu Sayyaf brigands.
She said there was no casualty reported on the government
troops who figured in the firefight.
