Troopers from the 16th Infantry Battalion have successfully
recovered four New People's Army (NPA) weapons during operations at Sitio
Minanga, Barangay Lumutan, General Nakar, Quezon Thursday morning.
The operations took place at 11: 30 a.m., 2nd Infantry Division
spokesperson Major Arnold Gasalatan said.
He said that government troopers were conducting security
patrols at the area when a concerned citizen gave information about the NPA's
firearm cache at Sitio Minanga.
The troops immediately proceeded to the area and
successfully captured two M-16 automatic rifles, an M-14 rifle and one shotgun.
Newly-installed 2nd Infantry Division commander Brig. Gen.
Romeo G. Gan lauded his men for the successful recovery of the weapons.
“We would like to thanks the people of Sitio Minanga,
Barangay Lumutan, General Nakar, Quezon for their continuing support in giving
information and I assure the people of Southern Tagalog that we will continue
in clearing the interior barangays from the influence of the NPA so that Local
Government Units can implement their programs and be able to provide basic
services for the people,” he said.
