The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas today expressed sympathy with the families of 44 police special troops — six of whom hailed from the region — and Bangsamoro fighters and civilians who were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25. “We sympathize with the families of the Special Action Force troops who were, as the Communist Party of the Philippines decried, sacrificed on the altar of the US war on terror,” said NDF-EV spokesperson Fr. Santiago “Ka Sanny” Salas. “The families of the slain troopers are right in demanding justice from the Aquino government for sacrificing them as well as its own ceasefire and peace pact with the Moro Islamic Libration Front. The main culprits in this bloody affair is not only the Aquino government but the US as well, for instigating the mutual slaughter of Filipinos because of its war on terror.”
The NDF-EV spokesperson said the incident at Mamasapano is an eye-opener about the extreme serviIity of the Aquino regime to the US, as well as the callousness of US imperialism in furthering its own interests. “The US war on terror is impinging on the internal affairs of the Philippines. US troops are suspected as having participated in the Mamasapano operation and afterwards. In fact, it was the US that had a key interest in the operation targeting two suspected leaders of the Jemaah Islamiyah. Thus, to forestall scapegoating or whitewashing, any impartial investigation should look into the roles of the US, Aquino and other high officials of the regime who were involved.”
Fr. Salas said the Filipino people should support the demand for justice by the families of the SAF troopers and other victims. “The Filipino people must demand a stop to increasing US military intervention in the country that has led to the shedding of blood of Filipinos in Mamasapano and elsewhere. They should intensify their struggle against the Aquino regime’s Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement and other military agreements that lopsidedly favor the US. Furthermore, the Filipino people are justified in pressing for the ouster of Aquino for provoking the Mamasapano incident, among other crimes, and replacing his regime with a government that upholds national sovereignty and the democratic interests of the people.”
