Southern Negros town declares itself ‘peaceful and development ready’

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 5): Southern Negros town declares itself ‘peaceful and development ready’

The municipality of Hinigaran in southern Negros Occidental has declared itself “peaceful and ready for further development.”

The declaration was formalized during the signing rites held Monday led by Vice Mayor Teresita Gabrido, Councilors Ernesto Adrian Aguilar and Oscar Catalino Yulo, with Col. Jon Aying, commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, and Lt. Col. Paulito Idul, commanding officer of 11th Infantry Battalion.

The ceremonial signing was held after the Sangguniang Bayan of Hinigaran passed a resolution declaring the town as “peaceful and ready for further development,” making it the first local government unit in Negros Occidental to declare itself as such.

The 303rd IB is eyeing to declare the whole province of Negros Occidental as peaceful and ready for further development by June this year.

Aying said a similar signing activity may soon be held for Bacolod City and the whole Fourth District of Negros Occidental possibly by the end of this month.

As part of the preparations for the takeover of internal security operations (ISO) in Negros Occidental by the Philippine National Police from the Philippine Army, the Police Regional Office-6 has started to distribute equipment for ISO to provincial police offices and 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB).

During the flag-raising ceremony at PRO-6 headquarters in Iloilo City Monday, 500 rifle slings and 499 chest rigs were distributed to 6th RPSB, Aklan, Antique, and Guimaras Police Provincial Offices.

The purchase of ISO equipment is among the priority projects of Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, regional police director of Western Visayas, who said that it is meant to fully equip their men in the field to improve their ISO capabilities.

Almost 300 boxes of finger slab ink and finger print rollers will also be distributed to city and municipal police stations in Negros Occidental and Panay, Angan said.
