Posted to the MILF Website (Feb 5): Archbishop Ledesma calls for support to BBL

Despite mounting calls by some government officials and other sectors for all-out-war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and suspending the deliberations on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), Cagayan De Oro City Archbishop Antonio Ledesma called for support to the passage of the BBL, which he said, could help realize the quest for permanent peace in Mindanao.

He said in a forum on BBL in Cagayan de Oro that, “All the more that we should be together behind the peace process,” He also said that “The strategy we must take here, despite the outbreak of violence, is to move towards peace.”

“Polarization should be avoided, Archbishop Ledesma further said..
Fr. Paul Glynn of the Interfaith Forum for Peace, Harmony and Solidarity secretariat on his part said that, “support for the peace process should be stronger “because we want peace.”

“I believe that amid the violence the BBL is more urgent than ever,” Glynn said.

Maguindanao Governor Esmail “Toto” Mangudatu t said that “The January 25 incident “was an unfortunate tragedy.” “But it should not become a setback to the peace process that seeks to address the Mindanao conflict that had claimed more than 200,000 Muslim, Christian and Lumad lives in decades”. “Let us remain sober and avoid speculations that may worsen the situation”, he also said.
