Two Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed while four members of the Philippine Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion were wounded following a 30-minute encounter in Barangay Tagbili, Patiku, Sulu Thursday morning.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said the clash took place 9:10 a.m.

He said that troops were conducting law enforcement operations in the vicinity when they engaged about 20 bandits, killing two of them and wounding an undetermined number before they escaped.

Four soldiers were hurt in the firefight and are now undergoing treatment at a medical facility at the Kutang General Teodolfo Bautista in Sulu.

The Army recovered seven high-powered firearms and took control of the terrorist camp in Barangay Tagbili.

Cabunoc said the terrorists were under Hatib Sawajaan, a sub-leader under the Abu Sayyaf leader Radullan Sahiron.

He said “reliable informants” confirmed the death of the two terrorists, one of whom was identified as a certain "Marasil."
