The military recovered explosives and other weapons after a gun battle with forces of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Pantukan, Compostela Valley Monday night.

After a gun battle with the NPA Front Committee Two, the 71st Infantry Battalion recovered two improvised explosive devices, an improvised hand grenade, a fragmentation hand grenade, two triggering devices, a three-meter long electrical wire, spent shells of M-14 bullets, a magazine and folded M-14 rifle.

The military believes this group is behind the recent extortion activities in Maco, Mabini, and Pantukan towns in Compostela Valley, where small-scale miners and other mining companies are based.
