From InterAksyon (Oct 23): 2 soldiers killed in attack on Maguindanao Provincial Hospital

Two soldiers from the 45th Infantry Battalion were killed in an attack on Maguindanao Provincial Hospital in Barangay Limpongo, Datu Hopper Ampatuan, a few meters from the Maguindanao provincial headquarters, around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The still unidentified perpetrators pretended to be relatives of a patient in the hospital, said 6th Infantry Division spokesman Army Col. Dickson Hermoso.

After gunning down the soldiers who were assigned at the hospital, the perpetrators took their service firearms of M16 and M14 rifles.

The four perpetrators immediately escaped on board two motorcycles.

Authorities are investigating if this incident is related to the recent killing of elements of the 6th ID.

Maguindanao Provincial Hosptial director Dr. Tahir Sulaik was saddened by the incident, shocked by the brazenness of the perpetrators.

Despite the incident, Dr. Sulaik said the hospital would continue to provide health services to the public.

He called on the armed perpetrators to respect the hospital as a zone of peace as it is the only hospital in the area, helping everyone including Moros.
